Hi Folks!

Just wanted to say thankyou to everyone who took part in Okey Music Day - it was a fantastic event and the first of many I hope!

This is a fantastic little town and it was incredibly emotional to see us having a little bit of normal again. Thankyou for supporting the day whether it was sponors, donations, having a poster up, sharing the posts on facebook or just coming along and enjoying the music - you helped make it a really special day.

I can announce Okey Music Day 2022 will be on Sunday July 17th. See you then!

The Fireblockers 7pm-8pm

A stunning 5 piece band who will be fully revved up from their main stage perfomance at Chagstock. They got their name because they used to block the fire whilst rehearsing in the Northmoor pub. A Big voice and upbeat tunes to dance to!

Five Finger Discount - 9pm-10pm

An original, upbeat three-piece who produce unique, identifiable songs built on Ska/Hip-Hop/Reggae grooves with lyrical trickery and killer harmonies a plenty, nothing but the good stuff!

Two distinctive voices that can each sing solo or harmonise together on a range of material from soft, mellow folk through jazz standards, country and pop to energetic new wave. Their repertoire includes both original songs and covers.

Meand'er - 4.10pm

Father and daughter Graham Crocker and Hannah Power have been playing acoustic music together (guitar, mandolin, harmony vocals) for many years and have supported many well-known musicians (Martin Carthy, Seth Lakeman, Al Stewart, Roy Harper, Julie Felix, Colin Blunstone, Roy Wood) and play a mix of unusual covers and originals with folk, pop and blues influences.

Wet Weather Schedule

The Chapel Stage 2pm-5pm

Brought to you by Paul Wilson, Marilyn Tucker and Hannah Cumming of Wren Music.

The event will feature performances from the three artists, including exerts from their popular show ‘Gothic Dartmoor’, a performance and workshop with Hannah and The Fiddle Orchestra of Devon, and an open air community singing event for all comers led by Paul Wilson.

Wren Music is one of England’s leading community folk arts organisations. We build communities with music. Here in Okehampton their programme includes: The annual Wren Music Folk Festival in October, the ever popular Lantern Procession, West Devon Folk Choir and Instrument Picnic (for parents and very young children).

Our unique no-experience-necessary approach makes musical experiences a reality for hundreds of people across Devon every week.

People of all ages and all backgrounds take part with us: children in their early years, schools, older adults, looked after children, teenagers with disabilities, vulnerable adults and the general public.

Our open-access choirs and orchestras run across Devon and are truly inclusive with no auditions or waiting lists.

Fiddle Orchestra Of Devon - 2pm

Fiddle Orchestra of Devon, or FOOD, is a specialist orchestra for any instruments from the fiddle family including violins, violas, cellos and double bass.

Hannah Cumming - 3pm

Hannah is an experienced and confident music leader. From an early age, she has been part of the folk music scene. Throughout her teens, Hannah was leading folk groups at festivals such as Sidmouth Folk Festival with her brother Alex, alongside band members Jon and Penny Dyer. She was part of ‘Livewires’ a community folk band once led by Mary Lepley, and now by Miranda Rutter and Rob Harbron. She has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, twice! First with the Somerset County Youth Choir, and later performing Klezmer music with her uni band ’The Klezbians’ whilst studying BA Music Performance at Falmouth University.

Gothic Dartmoor - 3.40pm

The Gothic Dartmoor concert explores a rich vein of myth and legend through the tales of Dartmoor. The songs are selected from the folk song collection made at the end of the C19th by Squire and Parson Revd. Sabine Baring-Gould, and inspired by his other writings including The Book Of Dartmoor and The Book Of Were-Wolves.

The Museum Stage (dry weather dependent)

The Okehampton Museum of Dartmoor Life Stage will run from 10am - 2pm as long as the weather is dry. The Cafe will be open so pop along and enjoy some acoustic music in the lovely courtyard. A fantastic way to start the day and get in the musical mood!

Aunt Fanny Unplugged - 10am

Genre hopping with some well loved tunes sprinkled with a few daft ditties and some light hearted banter! Aunt Fanny's Handbag (AKA Elaine Lightfoot) will entertain you all kicking off the music day at 10am.

Geoff Lakeman - 11am

A Cornishman who has lived on Dartmoor for 40 years, has been described as a stalwart of the West Country Folk scene and the father of a virtual folk dynasty.

Jim Causley - Midday

More than simply a folk-singer, multi award winning singer-songwriter and musician Jim Causley is an all-round entertainer. Beautiful singing, moving ballads, hilarious ditties and everything in between. Drawing equally from traditional repertoire, modern songs as well as his own compositions and settings of poems by his relative, the celebrated Cornish poet Charles Causley.

Rosa Rebecka - 1pm

Not only an outstanding vocalist but also a truly original and innovative songwriter, Rosa Rebecka continues to produce finely crafted songs which mix haunting narrative storytelling with a playful lyricism and sublime musicality. While her Swedish roots are never far below the surface, and she acknowledges the folk tradition of her adopted land, she has a timeless sensibility all her own.

Corkscrew Carter - 2pm

A juxtaposition of 1930's crooning songs and 1980's one-hit-wonders. On banjo and cheap guitar. With hats. Unholy!

Anything For A Fiver - 3pm

Folk rock duo with a cult following in this town, entertaining pubs, bars, weddings and photography showcases for a decade. Heavily influenced by the worlds of punk, country, folk and blues, Anything for A Fiver never fail to get a crowd singing. The duo - Tom Brennan (Vocals/Guitar) and Calum Gibb (Vocals/Guitar/Drums/Banjo/Mandolin/Fiddle/Bouzouki/Mongolian Throat Singing) fight crime by day and rock crowds by night. The perfect festival double act.
